4-year bachelor/full-time

YSAFA offers bachelor and master programmes in Painting on full time basis. The programmes offer exceptional methodology to promote and enhance student learning, are based on national cultural traditions and values, elaborate upon investigation of modern technologies as well as international experience. Students learn to get dimensional – spatial images through the help of lines and colours, to use plastic dimensions, to seek the technique and the technology of completing work of fine arts, to find unique solutions to compositional structure and colour. A unique opportunity to work with life models to ensure one-to-one choice of colour and relevant professional skills is guaranteed.  

Starting from the third year of bachelor studies, the teaching and learning process mainly takes place in studios run by the most prominent artists of the Republic. At master’s level, the programme focuses on creativity, critical thinking as well as development of research abilities of a student.

4-year bachelor/full-time

YSAFA is the only provider of BA and MA programmes in Graphics in Armenia and the programme has its set traditions formed throughout years offered on full time basis.

The programme aims at preparing highly qualified specialists for the fields of machine graphics, book graphics and book illustration. The students learn to get dimensional images using lines, to create graphic compositional projects (machine, book design). As work on material is the main means of expression for graphic arts, special attention is drawn to it within the programme and the students obtain required skills and abilities for choosing and using graphic materials appropriate for the composition.

The programme also offers in-depth knowledge on techniques and technologies /lithography, linography, zincography, etching, different types of engraving, etc./. Further, the programme offers internships in the laboratory of the YSAFA or in publishing and printing houses. The variety of graphic techniques and materials offered by the programme opens wider opportunities for the future artists while turning ideas into plastic works.

Sculpture is offered through bachelor and master’s programmes on full time basis. The main emphasis is to develop skills that enable working at production of easel, monumental, animalistic and decorative sculptures. Students enrolled in this programme make reproductions from antique sculptures, sculpture life models, also used for compositions. Further, students carry out special study of human body structure, proportionality and plastics. While studying they acquire the skills of revealing the artistic peculiarities of a figure. The academic programme also focuses on the use of a sculpture in architectural projects.

The academic programme in Art History and Theory aims at training highly qualified art-critics in general and specialists in history of fine arts, fictional criticism, museum activities, tourism and other fields requiring high professionalism of fine arts. It is offered at BA, MA and researcher levels.  

The programme also offers courses in Armenian and world art history, history of Armenian and foreign architecture, ethnography, archaeology, history of Armenian and world theatre, history of music, museology, foreign language, etc.

A particular emphasis is attached to developing critical thinking and analytical skills of the students. At practical level, the programme offers internships in exhibition halls, galleries, museums, state archives, and publishing houses.
