The YSAFA International Relations Department (IRD) was founded 2008. Its function is to gain the recognition of Yerevan State Academy of Fine Arts by international educational institutions and organizations. To achieve this aim it performs the following activities:

– Signing and enlarging inter-university cooperation with art schools of different countries;

– Realizing faculty, student and staff exchange in compliance with the Bologna process within the frames of ECTS /European Credit Transfer System/;

– Implementing new educational methods and programmes.

YSAFA International relations department has already achieved considerable success in the above-mentioned spheres. Year by year it increases the number of its contacts trying to widen the scope of cooperation and strengthen already existing contracts with art institutions in different countries.

YSAFA has inter-university agreements with Marseille School of Fine Arts in France, Reims School of Art and Design, Limoges-Aubusson National School of Art, Lyon State School of Fine Arts /France/. The exchange process with the above-mentioned universities took place from 2008 to 2009.

YSAFA also obtained a number of bilateral agreements of cooperation with Higher Educational Institutions of other countries:

Tomas Bata University in Zlin /Czech Republic/;

Stieglitz Art Academy in St. Petersburg /Saint- Petersburg/;

Art Academy of Latvia /Riga, Latvia/;

Information Systems Management Institute /Riga, Latvia/.

YSAFA has also participates in a number of International festivals, projects, conferences and contests.

In 2009 launched the project organized in the framework of UNESCO’s project “Caucasus” entitled “Signs of Identity/Signs of Diversity” in Latvia, Riga which was followed by workshop on painting. The continuation of the project took place in 2010 in Paris in the form of a joint exhibition and one of YSAFA students took part in the event.

Beginning from 2009 YSAFA actualizes cooperation with State Hermitage in St. Petersburg. YSAFA students also participate in International symposiums organized in Burganov Cultural Center /Moscow/.

YSAFA also cooperates with British Council and UN Armenian Office. In 2010 a series of exhibitions was organized in the house of UN introducing different themes.

International Relations Department also provides YSAFA involvement in International programmes and projects. YSAFA is already involved in several TEMPUS projects, it has also participated in DAAD programme.


On the 30th of September, 2009, within the frames of TEMPUS IV project, ECESIS (Educational centers’ network on modern technologies of management), a delegation led by the grant holder institution, Koblenz-Landau University paid a visit to the Yerevan State Academy of Fine Arts. The delegation included all the representatives of the consortium members from Ukraine (Dnepropetrovsk, L’viv, and Sumy), Russia (Tambov, Moscow), Moldova (Komrat) and EU countries (Germany, Poland and Spain).

Within the frames of the project, a Life-Long Learning Center for training in-service administrative staff will be established. The project will enable preparation of managers capable of functioning in the ever-changing environment.

ECESIS “Educational Centers’ Network on Modern Technologies of Local Governing” Tempus TACIS program took place in Valladolid, Spain, January 2010. Representatives from Ukraine (Dnipropetrovsk, Sumy and L’viv), Russia (Moscow and Tambov), Armenia (Yerevan) and Moldova (Comrat) attended it.

Tempus QATMI project

TEMPUS QATMI (Quality Assurance Tools for Management of Internationalization) project is coordinated by Birgit Bruns, International Relations Office, University of Oldenburg, Germany.

On 27-29 of October 2009 by the support of Tempus International Organization the representatives of the following countries visited YSAFA: Germany, the Netherlands, Poland, Ukraine (both from Kiev and Zaporozhe institutions), Russia (both from Volgograd and Belgorod institutions). They got acquainted with the YSAFA students and lecturers, made an assessment on the present state of the academy’s Internationalization and developed further plans for enlarging the YSAFA International cooperation.

Tempus project HESDESPI

Within the frames of another Tempus project HESDESPI – “Higher Education System Development for Social Partnership Improvement and Humanity Sciences Competitiveness” YSAFA is going to implement new modules namely “Human resource management” and “The use of IT in culture management” in its curriculum in September, beginning from the academic years 2010-2011. The institutions of the following countries are involved in the project: Moldova, Ukraine, Georgia, Italy, Portugal, Armenia (Yerevan State Academy of Fine Arts and Yerevan State University of Architecture and Construction) and Latvia on the head.
