Aug 14, 2011Drawing is the basis of art and has been one of the leading subjects since the first days of the foundation of Yerevan State Academy of Fine Arts. Originally the chairs of drawing and painting were combined in one, the chairholder of which was honorary art figure of ASSR, painter B.A. Kolozyan. In a short while, parallel to the expansion of the activity of the institute new specialists were involved in the work of the chair and eventually it was divided into two independent chairs. The position of the head of the chair of drawing was taken up by honorary art figure of ASSR, Professor V. Shakaryan. The staff of the chair was composed by a pleiad of such eminent painters as H. Avetisyan, S. Safaryan, G. Aghasyan, V. Aslanyan, V. Stepanyan, H. Mamyan, P. Malayan and G. Mnatsakanyan. In 1974 Shakaryan passed the “wheel” of the chair to people’s painter of ASSR S. Safaryan. In 1979 honorary art figure of ASSR, Professor G. Aghasyan became the chairholder who in his turn passed it to honorary painter of ASSR, Professor V. Aramyan in 1994. Since then the chair has been headed by sculptor, Professor G. Ghazaryan. The chair is constantly being enriched by young and experienced lecturers like professors H. Aghabekyan and V. Sahakyan, lecturers A. Avetisyan, A. Hovsepyan, G. Grigoryan and the anatomy lecturer, PhD holder H. Tajiryan. The mission of the chair of drawing is to prepare skillful and qualified specialists. The main object of expression and observation is the man himself. The latter skill is elaborated in students by the subject of anatomy taught at the university. During their study students use many drawing art means. In the course of many years the chair has created a fund collection which contains original drawing works and photos.
