On April 3, 2009 opened an exhibition named "My
Yerevan" in the exhibition hall of Albert and
Tove Boyajian. The day wasn't chosen by chance.
85 years ago on the same day of 1924 Tamanyan's
map of the development and regulation of Yerevan
was discussed and confirmed at the special
session of the council of Armenian SSR. Exactly
85 years later by the intention and immediate
conduct of the dean of the faculty of Fine Arts
of YSAFA, the adviser of Armenian Painters'
Union, painter and professor Khachatur Azizyan
opened the exhibition "My Yerevan". The
exhibition introduced the works of the
Institution's students and those of the
representatives of different generations: those
of Grigor Aghasyan, Edward Artsrunyan, Vladimir
Sahakyan, Suren Azizyan, Getik Baghdasaryan and
others, as well as the reproductions of Saryan,
Kojoyan and others being lecturers of the
Institution in their time. The exhibition opened
with the speech of YSAFA rector Aram Isabekyan.
Appreciating the efforts of the dean and
students he mentioned that the exhibition
carried an educational significance and
developed an attitude towards their settlement
and their city. Aram Isabekyan expressed his
appreciation both to the lecturers and
especially to the student painters and the dean
of the faculty of Fine Arts of the Academy who
had prepared with great enthusiasm the
exhibition dedicated to the establisher of new
Armenian architecture. "It was worth seeing the
enthusiasm that reigned in the hall at the
opening of the exhibition. The exhibition "My
Yerevan" was an event with its conception and
significance and Kh. Azizyan's undertaking was
firmly relevant and urgent. The idea was a call,
an alarm to rescue the face of the city from
distortion, carrying the order of wakening the
people from their insatiable dream of
disfiguring the city driven by their personal
narrow-minded striving. The students' ardent
enthusiasm, active participation in the
realization process of the exhibition, aroused
great hope towards the future of making Yerevan
a real capital" (Shushan Rshtuni, artist). "The
exhibition presents the historical regularity of
heredity. There were represented artists of
different generations and the works introduced
weren't merely urban landscape paintings but the
reflections of the spiritual problems of
external world's existence" (Ruzan Mikayelyan,
artist). Khachatur Azizyan in his speech named
the exhibition a cognitive one, outlining that
its 90 percent had been prepared by students.
The Academy student Ararat Minasyan whose works
also decorated the exhibition, added, "Yerevan
is our house and we must walk through it as we
walk in our flats". The present-day mayor of
Yerevan, Gagik Beglaryan was present at the
exhibition. Expressing his appreciation for such
a wonderful idea he mentioned that he had dreamt
to see the same Yerevan as Alexander Tamanyan
himself had dreamt of. |
